Gloves for my mum (x-mas gift) (by saraaires (quartodeideias))
Hey guys.
Hey.
Show of hands - who HATES that awful Lion Brand Homespun nonsense they call yarn?
you know…
Guess what! THAT IS WHAT I SPUN THIS FROM!
Before you start waving torches and pitchforks and screaming for me to be burned at the stake for sorcery - it can be done super easily! I use it to practice with my drop spindle instead of the expensive fiber. Plus, it comes out shiny and soft - totally worth the $1 and time.
Just cut the “yarn” into 2 or 3 foot lengths, whatever you are comfortable with, and pull out all the strings. What is left is fluffy acrylic fiber! Just spin from there.
When it comes time to wind off and set the twist, be aware that it is acrylic. For singles - I find it is best to take a steamer to the yarn while it is tensioned on my swift or niddy noddy. If you plied it and feel it isn’t balanced or still has too much twist, do the same thing. It works, I promise!
